What do ICT directors in Australian education need?

Nextmail Collaboration Systems

Nextmail is a 'smart layer' to widely-used email systems. It offers custom communication and collaboration functions specifically tailored for the requirements of Australian education.

Email is now the essential communication tool for all types of schools, but administration can be difficult, especially under the high-pressure annual cycle of opening and closing accounts. Nextmail controls and configures email systems, such as Google's Gmail, specifically for educational environments. Nextmail facilities also reach far beyond email, offering powerful collaboration tools that offer exciting possibilities for both staff and students. Nextmail is also tightly integrated with Nextsphere, as both are accessible through the Single Sign-On facility. Nextmail functions include:

Identity
Nextmail provides email accounts for staff, students and parents under a domain name for your school. It has a 'skin' for interfaces, which can be configured with school logos and colours. More...

Administration
Through our ADI facility, Studentnet allows bulk creation, maintenance, suspension or removal of email accounts. It also provides fine-grained levels of account administration for individuals or groups. Included is the auto synchronisation of passwords in the local account with the account in the cloud. This feature alone saves dramatically reduces administrator workloads. More...
Security
Access is controlled through integration with school identity management systems such as Directory Servers. The Nextmail administrator can configure appropriate filtering for viruses, spam and phishing attacks. More...
Supervision
All accounts are individually traceable and auditable for misuse, as in cases of cyberbullying. Administrators also have the Quiet Inspection facility for integrity checking. More...
Alumni
Email/DNS accounts for life are available for alumni, creating long-term links to the institution. Vast numbers of addresses are available as Studentnet® is built on futureproofed Internet Protocol version 6. More...
Groups
Contact group lists can be set up for classrooms, school years, houses, sports and science clubs, and special interest groups. More...
Reporting
Account and utilisation reports are easily generated. The reporting functionality has been custom-developed for education. More...
Collaboration
Powerful collaboration tools are available: personal and shared calendars, web-based chat facilities, file upload capabilities, document creation and editing, collaborative website creation. More...

Identity
Logo: your school logo will appear on your Studentnet facilities. Please provide an image in PNG or GIF format, sized 143 x 59 pixels.
Colour: you may shade the Nextmail student login box with the colour blue, green, grey, orange, purple, or yellow.
If your school does not already have its own 'edu.au' domain name, you may apply for one, but it must follow the 'edu.au' guidelines.
Apply for a domain name       'edu.au' guidelines and Registrar
Administer the domain name - add or remove address (A) or mail (MX) records.
Transfer domains to Studentnet Name Servers - have your domains hosted on StudentNet Name Servers.

Administration
Only Studentnet provides ADI: our custom developed facility to synchornise local network passwords (typically stored in AD but can be other directories) with the passwords of cloud maintained accounts.
We provide ADI not only through the provision of our innovative program code but also through the operation of our Studentnet Identity Server (SIS) that ensures that the synchronisation task is constantly completed to suit your network.
ADI is perfect example of our Innovation - Purpose - Delivery philosophy at work for you.

Security
School administrators are now provided with complete fine-grained control of school provided mail accounts just as if they were running their own internal mail servers.
This control comes about through the provision of our Silent Inspection and our ADI features.

Supervision
Via another Studentnet first, our collaboration accounts provide school administrators with the same abilities of monitoring and controlling the use being made of school provided mail accounts that they would have if they were to operate and maintain their own internal mail servers. This ability is provided by our Silent Inspection and Quiet Inspection facilities.
All administrator use of the Inspection facilities is carefully monitored and is fully auditable.
